Visit Eastern Gate Golden Gate Jerusalem Israel
Why is the Golden Gate significant?
Why do we visit the Eastern Wall, Golden Gate on our walks through the Bible?
Nearly 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ stood on this hillside overlooking the Old City making prophecies that would change the world.
Jesus ascended up into Heaven from the Mount of Olives, which overlooks the Eastern Gate to the west
Scripture in the Bible indicates that Jesus passed through the Eastern Gate many times during his time in Jerusalem. The original gate that Jesus walked through is believed to be a much smaller gate and this new gate was built years after the New Testament Times. The Bible predicts that the Messiah will enter the temple through this gate.
Bible reference can be found in Ezekiel 44:1-3 “Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it was shut. Then said the Lord unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the Lord, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut. It is for the prince; the prince”.
In Ezekiel 10:18–19, the prophet sees the glory of the Lord leave the temple through “the entrance of the east gate of the Lord’s house”; the glory then moves east of the city to the Mount of Olives (Ezekiel 11:23). Later, Ezekiel sees the glory of the Lord return to the temple via “the gate facing east” (Ezekiel 43:1–5).
The Golden Gate may have been the gate referred to in ACTS 3:2 as the “Beautiful” gate. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
The Eastern Gate remains shut at this time and is awaiting the coming Prince of Peace!
