Travel the Bible Egypt Jordan Pyramids, Sphinx, Petra, Bethany Beyond

You will start your  8 days in Egypt and Jordan by visiting the Pyramids, viewing the Sphinx and touring the Egyptian Museum that dates back some 50 centuries with fabulous treasures from King Tut.  During your visit to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, you will have the opportunity to ride a camel in the Sahara Desert.

Your tour continues from Cairo to Jordan by crossing the Suez Canal.  Imagine viewing the desert landscape as you travel through the Suez Peninsula and your tour guide retelling the story of the Exodus and the delivery of the Israelites from the Pharaoh of Egypt.   From here your tour will take you to the red granite mountains of the high range where you visit St. Catherine’s monastery and Mt. Sinai.   You will have the option to climb Mt. Sinai and walk the footsteps of Moses and the pilgrims who walked this route centuries earlier.  This hike will be done early in the morning so you will be able to arrive in time to see the sunrise and the splendid views.  The summit of Mt. Sinai is the traditional peak relating to the story of Moses’ encounter with God receiving the two tablets with the Ten Mosaic Laws.    Your day will continue  with the ferry ride to the Nabatean city of Petra.

Once in Petra, you will be visiting rose red Seir mountains that are mentioned in the Book of Genesis.  This mountain range houses the Aaron Peak, which is the highest locality in Petra.   You will walk through a narrow Siq passage, being the main entrance into Petra.  The “Siq” is encompassed by tomb and burial chambers and brings you to one of the largest theaters in Jordan.  THe theater is carved into the sandstone of the mountains of Petra at the bottoms of the High Place.  You will walk back up hill to the Royal Tombs and will have a great view of the lower part of Petra with all its Roman remains.

Your tour will end with a drive along the Exodus route north along the famed historical Kings Highway, passing by the well conserved Crusader city of Kerak.  You will continue to drive through Wadi Mujeb, a wildlife preserve and arrive at Madaba.  Here you will view St. Georges Church and the mosaic Madaba Map.  The Madaba Map shows the Holy Land as Christian pilgrims knew it to be at the time.   Your travels will continue to Mt. Nebo from where God showed Moses the Promised Land.   Your tour ends at the baptismal site of  “Bethany beyond in Jordan”   This baptism spot is significant to the Christian pilgrimage  because of its association with Jesus Christ our Lord being baptized here by John the Baptist.
