Travel Athens Greece The Acropolis Apostle Paul Footsteps ACTS 17:22-23

The definition of Acropolis is any citadel or complex built on top of a hill. The name derives from the Greek Akro, meaning “high on an edge” and Polis, which means “City”.  Together they are  translated as ‘High City’, ‘City on the Edge”.   The most famous Acropolis is overlooking the city of Athens in Greece. Our scripture based tours travel to this site because it is believed this is where Apostle Paul spoke to the Athenians.  The Bible also mentions this is where Apostle Paul preached in front of the High Court’s Body as one of its members (Dionysius the Aeropagite) adopted the ideas of his preaching.  Also known as Paul’s “Unknown God” sermon.

ACTS 17:22-23 To The Unknown God

Acts 17:22&23 “Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: ‘Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.”

It was during Apostle Paul’s missionary journey that he introduced the Word of God to Europe.  He planted the seeds of Christianity in Greece and it is still there today.
