Here is a round-up of the main events happening this winter-spring 2018: Sea of Galilee - Tiberias - January 5; Ironman: Eilat - January 26; Tel Aviv - February 23; Jerusalem - March 9; Mountain2valley – April 26-27.

International Tiberias Sea of Galilee Marathon - January 5, 2018

The International Tiberias Sea of Galilee Marathon on January 5 opens up the marathon season for 2018. This will be the 41st time that the Tiberias marathon takes place. The “lowest” full marathon in the world is some 200 meters below sea level in the Jordan Valley and measures 42.195 km on a flat and fast asphalt course. The Marathon course follows the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee set against breathtaking rustic landscape, and winding through ancient historical landmarks in the Jordan Valley. It is an out and back course, from the main streets of Tiberias along the Sea of Galilee, crossing the Jordan River up to the turning point at Kibbutz Ein- Gev and back to Tiberias. In 2012, a record was set for the marathon route in the male category of 2:07:30 hours. In line with the highest tradition, a complete sports happening will take place around the marathon including a 10 km race that will include in its route a section on a newly surfaced section around the lake of the Kinneret along the Barniki and Shikmim beaches. The Kinneret Urban Association will host marathon participants on its beaches including water distributing stations and music for the athletes.
