Biblical Sites Expanded Nile River Egypt Maranatha Tours

The Nile River is a major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, and is the longest river in Africa and the disputed longest river in the world, as the Brazilian government says that the Amazon River is longer than the Nile. In particular, the Nile is the primary water source of Egypt and Sudan.

The northern section of the river flows north almost entirely through the Sudanese desert to Egypt, then ends in a large delta and flows into the Mediterranen Sea. Egyptian civilization and Sudanese kingdoms have depended on the river since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along those parts of the Nile valley north of Aswan, and nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along river banks.

According to the Book of Exodus, Moses was born in a time when his people, the Israelites, an enslaved minority, were increasing in population and, as a result, the Egyptian Pharaoh worried that they might ally themselves with Egypt's enemies. Moses' Hebrew mother, secretly hid him when the Pharaoh ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed in order to reduce the population of the Israelites. Through the Pharaoh's daughter , the child was adopted as a foundling from the Nile river and grew up with the Egyptian royal family. After killing an Egyptian slave-master who was beating a Hebrew, Moses fled across the Red Sea to Midian, where he encountered the Angel of the Lord, speaking to him from within a burning bush, which he regarded as the Mountain of God.

Don't miss out on a Felucca ride early evening on your next trip to Egypt! Feluccas are the traditional sailboats of Egypt Nile. The Felucca has remained, over the centuries, the primary transportation of the Nile. Its ancient form still graces the river as it has done since the time of the Pharaohs. The felucca rarely has any form of engine and relies entirely on the breeze which builds during the day and usually subsides at night, and the Nile River’s current. A great way to end your day on the Nile River!

When you tour Egypt with Maranatha Tours, your first stop will be at the Pyramids when in Cairo. We will walk around Cheops Pyramid, the largest, that was built approximately 2690 B.C. We also visit the Pyramid of Chephren and see the Great Sphinx, who has stood guard over the pyramids all these years. The Sphinx was carved from a single piece of stone. It is a lion with a Pharaoh’s head thought to be a portrait of the Pharaoh Chephren. Here we will be able to ride a camel by the Pyramids area.
